Important Parent Information:
This year the seventh grade students will focus on improving their writing, speaking, and listening skills. In order to facilitate this process and keep students organized, each student is required to have a two subject notebook and a three ring binder. During class we will divide the notebook into the two appropriate sections: grammar and vocabulary and set up a writing reference binder which will be kept in the classroom.
Throughout the year homework will be assigned an average of four nights per week. The students may be required to complete a written assignment or worksheet. It has been explained to the students that they are expected to put their best effort into each assignment, including first drafts, and that neatness always counts. Students have been provided with a Homework Rubric, which they are expected to have in their reference binders at all times, which explains in detail how homework assignments are graded. Students have been informed that homework, major writing assignments or projects that are submitted late will only be counted for partial credit.
Some additional tools that students received are revision and editing checklists and a “target” list of common seventh grade spelling words which are also to be kept in their reference binders. It is essential that the students use their checklists, spelling lists, dictionaries, and other resources to assist them prior to submitting assignments.
