PEMBROKE SCHOOL DISTRICT

POLICY ON COMPETITIVE FOODS

The Pembroke School Board encourages students in good eating habits. The Board supports the food service program and complies with all state and federal regulations relative to food sales, competitive sales, and standard accounting and auditing procedures.

The installation and use of vending machines in the schools and the sale of foods outside of the food service lunch and breakfast program will be controlled so that they will not directly compete with the school breakfast and lunch programs.

The sale or provision of all food and beverages to students during school hours outside of the breakfast and lunch food service program will be under the control of the school principal after prior consultation with the food service director. The revenue from any such sales will be deposited and accrued to the respective building activities account or accounted for by the sponsoring group.

Vending machines may be operated in school buildings. The funds derived from such sales will accrue to the respective building activities account. With the exception of fruit juice purchases, students will not use vending machines during school day.

Vending machines may also be operated by the school in employee lounges for employee use only. The funds derived from such operation will accrue to the respective building activities account.

The principal(s) will submit to the Superintendent annual financial reports on each account.
