Activities Offered by the SchoolsCircusThe circus at the Hill School is a program for 3rd and 4th graders that takes place during the winter and into the spring. Students choose a circus skill such as juggling, unicycle, pogo sticking, Chinese Yo-yo, devil sticks, acrobats, stilts, clowning and spent about 10 weeks perfecting it. Circus culminates with performances for students and parents prior to the spring break and in conjunction with the art show. Talent ShowPlease join us in June for our Annual Village School Talent Show. Our talent show is for Kindergarten and first grade students interested in sharing their talent. We welcome a large variety of talent! In the past we have been entertained with magic, joke telling, singing, dancing and more. Students interested in participating will receive permission forms, in May, to take home and fill out with their parents. Drama ClubThe Drama Club produces one show in the spring. Students in second, third, and fourth grades are encouraged to try out for parts each year. We also welcome student help in preparing the sets and posters and being involved backstage or helping with the night of the shows. This is an after school activity that starts in late January/early February and runs through the beginning of May. There are two performances in May usually during the second week of the month. Shows that have been done are Annie Jr, Peter Pan, Mother Goose Inc, and The Wizard of Oz. PHS Road Race and WalkathonThe PHS Road Race and Walkathon happens at the Hill School every May. Students gather sponsors and either run or walk a two mile course. All proceeds benefit Hill and Village Schools. Craig Stam 485-9000. Annual Art ShowMid-April of each year, we host a school wide art show for all students in grades 1-4. Each student has a piece of their work on display throughout the main hallways of the Hill School. Annual Traveling Art ShowHeld in conjunction with our school wide art show. Ten student’s have had a piece of their work selected as part of the Traveling Art Show which is made up of work from 10 different schools and is on display in the Hill School library for a week each April. Art AuctionThis is a new event organized to help raise money for HUGS ACROSS AMERICA. Some students have donated a piece of their work to be part of this silent auction held in the art room of the Hill School. This event is open to the public. HUGS Across AmericaOur school is a chapter school for this not for profit corporation that provides teddy bears to children in crisis. We provide bears to both Concord Hospital and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. It is an on going project. Students take part in literacy activities and fundraising efforts in a variety of ways throughout the school year. Annual Teacher/Staff Variety ShowA fun evening event where teachers and staff entertain students and their families. All donations go to help purchase teddy bears for HUGS ACROSS AMERICA. Read Across America Week/ Dr. Seuss’ birthdayCelebrated the week before February vacation. A fun filled week of literacy based activities and dress up days. Annual Fin M’Coul Day at Hill SchoolAnnually on March 17th Tomie De Paola’s version of the story of Fin M’Coul comes alive for students as they look for story references and signs of leprechauns and other characters throughout the day. First graders travel up to the Hill building to join in the fun as they take a tour through the building. Activities Available in the CommunitySki ProgramPembroke students in grades three thru eight are invited to participate in the school ski program offered at Pats Peak Ski Resort in Henniker, NH. The program runs in the month of January, one afternoon each week. Transportation is provided. Details and registration are sent home in late fall. For information contact Pats Peak. Bitty BasketballThe Town of Pembroke Recreation Department offers a basketball program for children in grades three and above. The program runs during December and January. Contact the Rec Department at the Town Hall for details. SoccerThe Suncook Youth Soccer program runs from August to October with both rec divisions for ages 4 and up and competitive travel teams for older children. Cub ScoutsCub Scout Pack 270 is out of Pembroke, NH. Cub Scouts are for boys in grades 1-5. For more details visit the Pack 270 Web site. Girl ScoutsTri-Town Girl Scouts is in Pembroke, NH.
