Academic Expectations

1. At graduation, all students will be able to demonstrate academic accountability
Exemplary Exhibits clear understanding of covered material
Gives evidence of work being done outside of the classroom
Requests help with difficult topics
Participates actively and knowledgeably in class discussions, providing thoughtful insight
Proficient Has a basic knowledge of covered material
Completes out of class assignments in a timely manner
Sometimes asks questions in class
Participates in class discussions using learned material
Not Yet Proficient Has little knowledge of covered material
Completes few assignments
Does not ask questions for clarity
Contributes little to discussions, showing no evidence of understanding

 

2.  At graduation, all students will be able to utilize skills as critical thinkers and problem solvers
Exemplary Is able to apply learned information to new situations
Reasons through a problem, providing convincing and strong evidence
Is able to explain and justify given solutions
Proficient Can identify relevant information, but not always find ways to apply
Explains a solution using somewhat organized evidence
Not Yet Proficient Cannot recall relevant facts and information
Cannot reason through unfamiliar problems with familiar material
Cannot explain or justify solutions or outcomes

 

3.  At graduation, all students will be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the arts
Exemplary Knowledge and understanding of a variety of musical forms and styles
Can separate objective reasoning from subjective reasoning
Proficient Familiarity with some differing musical forms and styles
Understands difference between objective and subjective, but is not always able to separate those ways of thinking
Not Yet Proficient Little knowledge of musical forms and styles
Does not understand difference between objective and subjective reasoning; thinks subjectively most of the time

 

4. At graduation, all students will be able to make connections with the world at large
Exemplary Recognize social influences on modern music
Identify historical influences of musical forms
Makes thoughtful predictions about musical trends
Proficient Understands that society affects modern music
Familiar with historical changes in music
Can make limited predictions about music trends
Not Yet Proficient Does not recognize societal influences on modern music
Unfamiliar with historical changes in music
Cannot make educated predictions about musical trends
