The Billboard Magnet is designed to give students confidence and experience in displaying their creativity for a viewing public. They do this by painting large (4' x 8') murals and mounting them for display in front of our school. Most of the magnet members have not previously thought of themselves as "artistic," but after choosing designs for murals, drafting the paintings, executing and mounting them, the Billboard students grow in confidence, assertiveness and trust. They learn to work as a team. They analyze images to determine what elements work well and to balance "Hey! That would look cool!" with "That design is a little too complicated for a billboard." For some of the students, this is their first experience painting large pictures or using power tools and they are amazed at how well they can do in these intimidating areas.
